Biography

Henri Matisse was a French painter, draftsman, sculptor, and printmaker, born in 1869 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis and passed away in Nice in 1954. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and a leading figure of modern art. Renowned for his mastery of color and his fluid, decorative style, Matisse sought to create works that conveyed harmony, balance, and joy.

Although best known for his paintings and cut-outs, Matisse also explored textile art throughout his career. His deep interest in pattern, color, and form translated beautifully into woven and printed works, bridging fine art and craftsmanship. These textile creations allowed Matisse to extend his vision beyond the canvas, transforming everyday materials into expressions of pure artistic elegance.
